Post-Miscarriage Recovery: Dealing with Heavy Bleeding & Concerns

Question
Mohammad-
5 months ago I had a miscarriage, I was 14 weeks.  It happened on a weekend, I went to the ER and they confirmed it and sent me home.  My OB/GYN said I would not need to make another appt. so I never had a follow up or anything.  I never had a D&C and had gone back to the ER a week later for extremely heavy bleeding, they did an ultrasound and sent me home again.  Ever since I had the miscarriage my periods have come regularly, but they are VERY heavy, about as heavy bleeding as the miscarriage was and the cramping is severe.  There are no light days or anything like, it's all just really heavy.  I have had miscarriages before and have never had this problem, but the ER doc was pretty rude to me so now I am very hesitant of going back to the dr.  Is this something I need to go to the doctor for, or should the problem clear itself up?  I would greatly appreciate any help.

Thank you!

Answer
Dear Carolyn

I would suggest a repeat vaginal ultrasound to exclude the presence of remnants of conception inside your uterine cavity. This should be done by an experienced sonographer. If anything is there, you will need a D & C but If nothing is there which i c as a remote possibility, you my need some blood investigations to check for the reason.

This is something that we see in everyday's practice and you should not worry about it..just pickup a good doctor and ur done.

Good Luck
