Post-Miscarriage Physical Sensations: What to Expect & When to Worry

Question
I was only two to three weeks when I had a miscarriage after that my body hasnt been normal.  When I was still pregnant I felt like if something moved inside my stomach and after I had the miscarriage I still felt the same movement and it's been over 5 months but my doctor tells me everything is fine, but I know my body doesnt feel the same after the miscarriage. Is this normal?

Answer
Hi Rocio
Miscarriage can be a very traumatic thing, no matter how long or short the pregnancy lasted.

I think if you ask any woman who has been through the same, most will say they have never felt physically (or indeed mentally) the same since. For example, I find it very difficult to deal with my periods as it just brings all the memories back, but it's getting slowly better as time goes by.
As expectant mums we all look forward to feeling our child move in our tummies, but then having it cut short with all our dreams and expectations is devastating.

The strange feeling you are experiencing has obviously been investigated and it's good to know all is well. It can take months for your body to completely go back to normal, so it may be your body healing. Another thing it could be is wind moving about in you!

What you're feeling is completely normal. I'm still grieving for my loss and often have an almost 'empty' feeling in my tummy. Perhaps you're experiencing a similar kind of grief?
The most important thing is that you're in good health. Have you thought about going to some sort of child loss group or individual counselling? Your local health centre should be able to give you some telephone numbers.

I wish you the best of luck, I'm here if you need to chat some more.
