QuestionI have a question regarding cycles after d&c. I had a d&c and got my period back several weeks after, which gave me hope we can start ttc again. However, I am cd 36 and no sign of af (I know I am not pregnant). I know that they say your cycles after a d&c can be all over the place, but I used to have cycles no longer than 29 days. I am starting to get so frustrated and wondering if my body will get back to normal . Why haven't I got my period by now? When I should be concerned if it doesn't come back? Has this created problems for me in the future of getting pregnant?
Please Help!!
AnswerTeresa,
I am so sorry you have had to undergo a D&C.
Having a D&C should not routinely cause you any problems in getting pregnant in the future, unless your doctor spoke to you about any complications that occurred during the operation. It can take 3 months for your body and cycles to return to normal after a D&C, and in some ladies it can take considerably longer. I know this makes it difficult when you are trying for a baby, but it does not mean you cant still get pregnant. If your cycle is still not correct after 3 months then it may be worth speaking with your doctor to make sure that the D&C was performed fully and that everything is OK. I know it is easier said than done, but there is no reason why your body wont return to normal when it is ready, and you just need to give it some time to do that. Pregnancy, and then a D&C has a major impact on the body and it will need time to adjust back to normality.
It was once believe that too much sex reduced the sperm count and so women trying for a baby waited for their most fertile days, however, it is now proven that plenty of regular sex enriches the quality of the sperm. So, although your cycles are longer and it is harder to find your most fertile days there is no reason why you cant have lots of regular sex and you never know, you may fall pregnant before your cycles return to normal. You do not need your cycles to be back to normal to start trying again for a baby, you just need to be mentally and physically ready.
I hope you get a positive result soon!
Kind regards,
Christine
