Delayed Period & Ovulation: Understanding Cycle Changes

Question
Hi i am pretty confused. I am an average of 31 day cycles and this month my period came on day 33 (2days late) the day be4 i bleed i had cervical mucus that had a streak of blood in it and than i bleed for 2 days with a day of light spotting. Since i was late can that change when i ovulate? A couple days ago i started to have milky cervical mucus and it increased for about 3-4 days and it increased so much that i had it allot on my panties. The cm increased to a lotion feeling that at one point when i tested in between my fingers it stretched but there was not alot could i have ovulated already? i keep on hearing how many woman get alot of egg white cm and this month i did not have alot of the stretchy cm. It's cd15 and the calculations say i should be fertile now but all i have is a normal wetness no ewcm. Sorry if i am confusing you i am trying to explain in the best possible way. Also just 1 more question i had sex and it was not rough and the next day i had cm ( or it was left over sperm) that was blood colored and it was a big glob than i spotted light pink for a couple hrs would you happen to know what may have caused that?

Thank you in advance

Answer
I'm sorry I didn't get back to you right away!  I meant to and then I forgot because I had a study weekend to attend and never got back to the computer!  Please forgive me.

I'm not sure I can help you a lot.  The art of natural family planning is that it utilizes the historical patterns that you notice from month to month.  Scrutinizing this months details isn't as useful as looking at how things look as compared to last month, and the months before.  When you come up with a different pattern from what you've had in the past, then you sit back and patiently wait to see if things return to what you have come to expect.  If not, then you have something new to consider.

So, about the details you describe, they could be a new normal for you, an announcement that your health or fertility is changing or just a quirk for this month and things will return to normal next month.  That is why you chart and write down each day's pattern.

Normally, ovulation occurs 10-14 days before your period begins, no matter how long your cycles are.  The longer this time is the more successful implantation and pregnancy will be.  With shorter post-leutal phases, the less progesterone is in your system and that can cause difficulties when you want to get pregnant.  That is why it is important to note when you ovulate and how long each phase in your cycle is.

I'm assuming that you do not use the temperature symptom to cross check your mucus signs.  In my experience, it helps a lot to know what your basal body temperature is doing along with the mucus pattern.  It helps to clarify some of the questions you've got.

Again, sorry I messed up and didn't get back to you right away!!!
