Early Pregnancy Concerns: Understanding a Possible Vaginal Discharge

Question
I am about 5 weeks pregnant, and this morning I was taking a shower, and a greenish colored blob thing fell out me and went down the drain. It is a possibility I could be expecting twins, but I haven't had an ultrasound. I'm wondering exactly what that thing was, and why it happened and what it means is going to happen next. Could it be a twin that didn't make it, or could it be the beginning of a full miscarriage? Please help!

Answer
Hi Erica
It's incredibly rare to miscarry any embryo/foetus without some sort of bleeding.
I'm not medically qualified, but your symptoms sound very similar to a possible infection and what you saw was discharge. It's extremely common to have (non-sexually transmitted!) infections during pregnancy due to natural bacterial imbalances, a couple of them cause stringy yellow/green discharge which can clump together.

It's really important to get any possible infections confirmed and treated as they can spread to your uterus & waters, which can be very harmful to your baby. Make an appointment with your doctor so you can get fully checked and treated as appropriate.

I hope this has helped. Do come back if you have any further questions.
Kindest Regards
Sarah
