Understanding Potential Pregnancy After Protected Sex & Irregular Bleeding

Question
hi , i had sex on feb 4 with a condom. i got my full period on feb 9 . It was heavy and the blood was bright red. I have been feeling sick I think it is due to stressing over this so much. So i took a pregnancy test on March 3 and it was negative. am i not pregnant?

Answer
Dear Jessey,

If the sex was protected with a condom and there was no breakage of the condom or other incident which would have left you vulnerable, then you are likely safe from pregnancy.

Also, if the period on 2/9 was your regular, expected time for a period, then then 2/4 encounter would very likely have been past when you would have ovulated and been in your most fertile time.

A pregnancy test taken on 3/3 should have been long enough past a potential conception date of 2/4 to have picked up the pregnancy hormone if it was present in a high enough level to indicate pregnancy.

In short, under these circumstances, you are very likely not pregnant.

I hope that helps and answers your question. Be well.
