QuestionMy last missed period was on 01/27 so by my calculation i am 9 weeks and 1 day. I went to see doctor the first time on march 26th( 8 weeks and 2 days by my calculation) but they told me i am only 6 weeks and 1 day. They could not see the heard beating because the baby is only 5 mm. They took my blood test.My hormone level was at 19000 and checked it again on march 28th and it went down to 16000. It was checked again on march 31st and it was at 14000.
I do not have any pain, cramps, or any bleeding.
They are pretty sure it's miscarriage but i read on line it's normal for hormone level to go down after 8 weeks...
If it is a miscarriage when should see any signs of it?
At what week they should be able to see a heart beat?
Thank you so much
AnswerHi Natalya
I'm sorry to say that a dropping hCG level is not a good sign & often an indication of the pregnancy failing. It is normal for hCG levels to slow down but they continue to increase until around 25wks, where they start to drop. This is because hCG is vital for the development of the foetus, the baby by then is usually fully formed & spends the last trimester growing in size. The heartbeat can be detected as early as 5-6wks, but it's normally from around 7-8wks.
Some women only realise that they have miscarried at the 12wk scan. It's found that the foetus has stopped developing & has no heartbeat, this is called a 'missed miscarriage'. Often because the body has not started the miscarriage process, a small surgical procedure called a D&C is carried out. This is done under a general anaesthesia & involves removing the tissue by gentle suction. It involves no incisions so you can often go home the same day.
I expect that they will continue to monitor you for now & see how things go, they will then decide what your options are if you haven't miscarried naturally within the next few weeks. You may find that you'll start to experience cramping &/or spotting. The bleeding usually gets heavier & you will probably start passing clots. Be sure to have a telephone number of somebody reliable nearby - it's not a nice thing to experience alone and you may want some company & support. There's also a safety aspect.
I hope this has helped & wish you the best of luck. Please do come back if you need anything else.
Kindest Regards
Sarah
