Thumb Nail Damage: Can Acrylic Nails Help?

Help!  :) I smashed my thumb in a car door a month ago and my thumb nail is coming off.  I can see a new one growing underneath and the old one is only holding on by about a fourth (at the tip).
Once it completely comes off, can I have an acrylic nail put on until it grows out?  I'm in a profession where my hands mean a lot to my patients and it would look awful to have a weird stubby nail.

I see no problem with putting an enhancement over your thumb while it grows out. Just be sure to go to a clean, reputable salon to have this done. Your thumbnail needs to be clean and properly prepped before and acrylic or gel is applied. Best of luck Linda, and glad your nail is growing back :)
