Gel Nail Removal: Understanding Timeframes & MMA Concerns

Question
If my salon says it will take 45 minutes to 1 hour to get my gel nails off by soaking, that falls into the MMA category you mention on your informative website, but only by 10 minutes, so I want to see if you think that definitely means they have MMA? Thank You, Heather

Answer
Hi Heather,

What first must be determined is if Liquid & Powder Acrylic nails were applied or true UV Gel.
If they are Liquid and powder Acrylic, the application would be as follows: dip large brush into a purplish liquid, then dip it into a pot of powder, then the 'ball' created by mixing the two liquids is patted down onto the nail.
If they are UV Gel, then a small brush is used to apply a substance that is thick and clear, that resembles the viscosity of hairgel in thickness.

IF the liquid and powder method was used, then they are likely MMA as typical QUALITY acrylic should only take 20 to 30min maximum to soak it off in remover.
Enhancements should NEVER have to be 'pried' off the nail with an orange wood stick or anything else. If they are 'pried' off, this is another clue that they are MMA.

This is the best answer that I can give. Without actually having been in the salon and witnessing the application and smelling the product, I couldn't say otherwise.

Hope this helps
Best regards
