QuestionI have recently started trying my hand at filigree jewelry. One of the things that I am having trouble with is after heating the sterling silver with the torch during the soldering process it looses it's temper. How do I put the temper back into the sterling silver so that bracelets and stuff have the spring in them they need to keep their shape.
AnswerGreetings,
Every time you heat your silver you normalise it.
The only way I know to avoid the normalisation is to use the lowest melting point solder, and very low heat.
Use of a micro-torch will help as well - this means you that the heating is specified to one localised point.
Check my previous answers, as I believe that I've dealt with this in detail in the past.
Cheers and Good Luck, P
