Removing Orange Discoloration from Sterling Silver Charm Bracelets

Question
I recently took my silver charm bracelet to the jewelry store to get the charms soldered onto the bracelet.  When I got the bracelet back, I noticed a lot of orange discoloration on the charms and on the bracelet.  The jeweler told me it was because of the heat used in the process. I've tried to use the baking soda in the foil pan technique to remove the "tarnish" but I can't seem to get it all.  Is my bracelet ruined?

Answer
Hello Joyce and thank you for your inquiry. You should take the bracelet back to the jeweler for suggestions on restoring the silver on your bracelet. In my opinion, the jeweler should have advised you if there was a chance of any discoloration with the soldering process and made suggestions for alternatives in restoring your bracelet. You don't say if the bracelet is sterling or silver plate. You may be able to buy a silver jewelry pen at the craft or art store that will help cover the discoloration but you will have to use a lacquer over it (nail lacquer will be fine). Hope this helps and you can restore your bracelet.
