If one must purchase PLATED components for jewelry making... which is best, silver plated or sterling plated and just what does silver plated mean?

As far as I know it isnt possible to sterling plate, however silver plate is what you are asking about.
Fine silver is held in solution, and with current passing through, the particles attach to the surface of the object being plated, usually to a thickness of 2 to 4 microns.
