Identifying a Vintage Yellow Diamond Engagement Ring - Maker Mark Help

Question
My husband and I recently purchase an estate white gold yellow diamond engagement ring with two rows of white diamonds encircling the yellow diamond.  It is finished elaboratly in the back and is marked 750 on one side with the number 980 on the other side.  the makers mark is either a diamond or a sheild with a cross separating it in for sections.  I bought this at Rau's antiques and no one has been able to identify the makers mark for me.  Help please

Answer
Hi Tiffany,

The 750 mark is typical for 18kt.  Not sure about the 980, as it is a silver mark used in Mexico.

As far as the makers mark, I can't see it to find its match, but here are a couple of websites offering free information regarding makers and hallmarks.

A google search for makers marks brings up many reference sites with images to compare to.  I have included links to some of these sites in my past answers.

I am afraid you will have to do some research on this one yourself.  The other alternative, pay to have a complete insurance appraisal done and get an agreement from the appraiser to identify the makers marks before you agree to have them do the appraisal.
