Identifying a 14k Cardinal Maker's Mark on a Vintage Ring

Question
Hello. My husband's grandmother gave me her diamond engagement ring before her passing, and I have tried to find information on the Maker's Mark inside the band, with no luck. It's stamped "cardinal" on one side and "14k" on the other- I know what the 14k means, but can't locate anything for the 'cardinal' stamp. Any insights?

If it helps, if this ring were purchased new for her at the time, it would have been purchased around 1940.

Thanks so much for your time.

Answer
Hi Jenni, Thanks for the question. Cardinal was a casting and ring manufacturer in the old Providence RI jewelry community. They were a moderate sized firm supplying many retail jewelers across the country. They discontinued operations around 1969.
