QuestionI have been losing weight and my wedding band is slipping off of my finger. I have used masking tape to make it fit tighter, but was wondering if there was a better way to make the inside smaller so it won't slip off and still look OK if it turns around on my finger. I'm thinking of fingernail polish, but.... The ring is about 3/8 " wide.
Thanks.
PS, none of the search engines seem to be able to help.
AnswerGreetings, and I apologies sincerely for my slow response as my All Expert e-mail have been getting redirected to a sub folder by the server.....ah the joy of modern tech
There are a few ways to achieve this and it will dependent upon the design/style of the shank.
You could simply have it re-sized by cutting and resoldering.
You could have it pressure shrunk which is forcing it into a smaller tapered sleeve to bring its size down.
Or you could have and thin shim sleeve fitted to the interior
which will then make the ring size smaller.
Hope this of assistance and good luck. Cheers, P
Hello again Leo,
My apologies as I didn't realise you were asking for a temporary solution.
Using the shim method will achieve this for you. You have an internal ring which is slightly wider than the existing ring and then you rub down the edges so that the internal ring remains in place. When you need it to be larger again it is a simple process to remove this ring with no damage to the original shank.
i use this method when altering delicate or heritage pieces.
Hope this is of assistance, P
