Is My New Anniversary Ring Actually Used? - Identifying Scams & Authenticity

Question
My husband just purchased an anniversary band for me and while we were at another jeweler having my engagement ring re-mounted they indicated that the anniversary band appeared to have been a used ring as the "PT 950" and the manufacturer's stamp were both almost completely scratched/rubbed off the ring and there are numerous scratches in and around the band.  I was wondering if it is in fact possible that this band was used and the jeweler sold it as new, or was the stamp and scratches due to the re-sizing done on the ring?  The jeweler that noted this indicated that the band would have had to have been worn for a long period of time or re-sized numerous times for the stamps to be almost completely rubbed off.

Answer
Either of those are posibilities.
Be carefull a jeweler making a statement might be trying to downgrade the other jeweler.
Bring the ring to an expert appraiser and let the appraiser decide.
In most cases an appraiser will be able to tell.
Happy Hollidays!!
Thanks for writing!!
