Platinum Engagement Ring Bending & Cracking: What to Do?
Question
pave engagment ring
Hello, I got engaged 12-20-08, got married 11-7-09..it is now 1-7-10. In the time I have had my ring it has bent and lost shape about 4 times,2 of the times it actually bent so much it did crack and I lost diamonds from the side. The first time being New years Eve 2008, only 11 days after getting my ring. We have brought it to the jeweler and his has fixed it, but always wants to "blame" it on something Im doing.. I notice again that it is bending again.I am a righty so very rarely do I use my left hand for anything. I sit at a computer all day, after the first 2 times it happend I was extremly cautious as to what I did, when I get home it comes right off my finger and back in the box. Can you please tell me does soemthing sound wrong with this ring?.

Good morning Melissa,
I am so sorry you are having trouble with your ring mounting, especially one made in Platinum! Every so often in the ring casting business, there is a bad apple. what I mean by that is that the design of the ring comes out of the factory not structurally sound when it is casted. In and around the diamonds I think the gallery holding the stones might be coming out a bit thin if in fact the ring is casted. The ring might be a die struck too which would be almost impossible for this to happen.
My advice is to alert the Jeweler asap that the ring is bending again and take a picture of it in its bent shape again. Go into him/her and request that the company he uses be made aware of this defective situation and you may have to send the entire ring to this company for replacement. Now the Jeweler might have casted or made the mounting himself which might be another problem for you. First he might of used inferior materials in the casting process. Second, he already repaired the ring which might infringe on his warranty from a manufacturer he might of used to supply the ring based on those policies. (I know at this point this might seem futile but there is hope) Just demand that he replace the ring in the event you are not satisfied with his action to please you. Do you have insurance on the ring?
I hope this helps, its not a pleasant thing with so emotional product. I hope the jeweler realizes that also and will not want to hurt his business by having a dissatisfied customer. let me know what happens.
