Question the inside of my ring says 14K on one side and IKS or IK9 on th other-what
could it mean?
AnswerBekah, as you likely know, I do not try to identify the marks of jewelry makers. What I believe the IKS(?)stamp is just that: The maker's mark.
The way the law reads in the USA, if a ring is stamped with the quality mark showing the karat (14k in your ring), then the maker must also put its mark on the item close to the quality mark. The makers mark is like a signature on a document, attesting to the honesty of the quality mark.
To find out the actual name of the manufacturer, the best place to check is where the ring was purchased. If the ring was handed down, an heirloom or similar, the maker may not be found. The names of many manufacturers have changed over the years, with some going out of business, being bought out, new ones entering the marketplace.
I hope this helps. Thanks for getting in touch.
