QuestionMy mother died a few weeks ago. My niece has told us a strange story. My mother, her grandmother, gave her a ring saying that this ring was given in the family from grandmothers to granddaughters. She did not give more information.
My niece went to a jeweler who said it was white gold and at least 200 years old. The ring is about 8 mm, it has no decorative details in the outside, it is plain. But, the inner side has three signs: there is "c.c." and on each side of that "c.c.", there is a crown. Any idea what we can do to have more information?
We live in Quebec, Canada.
AnswerHello Claire and thank you for your inquiry. You might start with your grandmother's heritage and culture - i.e. Irish, English, etc. The custom may have originated there. The crown suggests European. Below is a world hallmark site that you may be able to visually recognize the crown mark. The c.c. could have to do with either
assay or location, even something like from-to monogram. Just copy and paste the below url into your browser address field and hit enter:

Let me know if you have any luck and if I find out anything else, I'll be sure to let you know.
