QuestionI have a small ring that i inherited from my mother, its about 40 years old and she claimed it to be gold set with garnets (which in all honesty may be glass)
i have no illusions to it having any value, and this is more a matter of curiosity,
the ring is well worn and so definitely NOT plated and visually it definitely appears to be gold. however, it is stamped on the inside with either 715 or SIL.
from what i can find out doesn't make sense, as 715 isn't a hallmark at all and 'SIL' is silver,
so i guess my question is, can you make silver look gold, and if so how? and if not, what on earth is this thing made of?
Answerthis could be the style number of the ring it also could be the initials of a person that was given to as well it could be he initials or the Goldsmith that made this ring...
you may want to find an estate appraiser that may recognize this...
