Understanding 'K' on a Gold Ring: Is it 10K?

Question
I recently bought an Irish Claddagh ring that I thought was 10k gold.On the inside is the maker's mark and a K. What this K alone mean? Thank you for your help.

Answer
Dear Patrick,

I suspect the ring was miss stamped and only the K for karat is showing. Look for a faint shadow of the 10 which should be next to the K.  If no mark is visible at all and you are uncertain of the actual karat of the ring, you need to either contact the seller and advise of the mark or go to a local jewelry business to have the ring tested.

Without the ring in hand to actually test, I cannot be absolute in saying the K means karat.

Best wishes. God Bless and Peace.  Thomas.
