Fertility After Depo-Provera: Getting Pregnant After Birth Control

Question
I am 20 and i have 1 son and me and my fiance want to have another i am currently on depo my last shot was on july 8th and in october we want to try to get pregnant. Now even though i have been on depo for a year i still get periods. My question is will it still take me a long time to get pregnant? And my last period was 8/20/04

Answer
The DepoProvera should be out of your system by October 8, and you may ovulated around October 22. Try having intercourse on October 21,22,23, or 24. However, after taking DepoProvera it is possible to have abnormal bleeding or unpredictable bleeding, or no bleeding at all. If you have sex around those days, and do, indeed, conceive on one of those days, a pregnancy test will not show a positive result until 14-21 days later. The best time to take a pregnancy tst is seven days after your miss your period. Good luck to you.
