Late Period, Possible Pregnancy? Symptoms & Concerns

Question
LMP 12/10. My husband and I had sex on the 12/25 which was around ovulation. My cycles are between 28-30 days and I am pretty regular. LP is about 13 days. I am now 2-3 day late and for the last 3 days I'm having some brown discharge off and on when I go to the bathroom. I am also very tired and have a lot of nausea. My BBT have stayed above 97.3 ( pre ovul. is about 96.8). I took a pregnancy test today and negative. Is it possible to still be pregnant or are my chances pretty slim? Also, are those normal ranges of temps or could I not be ovulating? So many questions and so little answers! Thanks for your help.

Answer
Dear Amanda,

If you are just now 2-3 days late, it may still be a bit early to get a positive pregnancy test. The average rule about BBTs is to look for an increase of at least .4 degrees after ovulation (which yours is) and if your temperature stays up for 18 days or more after ovulation, you should test for pregnancy. Your temperature shift does indicate ovulation and a biphasic cycle.

The discharge you are having may be implantation bleeding or a bit of discharge in early pregnancy or an unusual period. It is just too early to tell.

My suggestion is to wait a little bit longer. Continue to track the BBTs. If they remain above 97.3 for 18 days, then test again.

I hope this information has helped you and answered your questions. Please don't hesitate to write again with any additional questions. I wish you great luck!! :-)
