Severe Cramps After Starting Ortho Evra: What to Do?

Question
I am 18 and I have no children.  I've been on Othro Evra for just one month now.  It was perscribed to me because I've always had severe menstrual cramps.  I took the patch off Saturday (this is my 'patch off week'), so I have just started my period.  I am getting severe cramps - worse than anything I've experienced in the past.  It almost feels as if I'm having contractions.  There are sharp, shooting pains to my ovaries.  I can't find any information on this and I am quite worried. What is going on?

Answer
The patch works exactly like the pill and both of them usually alleviate menstrual cramps. HOwever, the patch (or the pill) does not cause menstrual cramping. If you are having cramps, try Advil or Motrin (600mg every 4 hours). If the pain does not go away, consult your doctor to make sure that you do not have an ovarian cyst or something else.
