I just had a cold knife biopsy done for dysplasia and they removed over 90% of my cervix. What are my chances of being able to concieve again. My doctor is giving us no chances at all says my cerix is to short and wide an d the chances are very slim. Are there any kind of procedures to help correct it or do I do just except never being able to have more children. My husband and I have no children and I can't help but feel we never will. Please help me Jeni

Since you still have a uterus and ovaries, you certainly can conceive. The sperm travel thorugh the cervix ( even if it is very short) and travel through the Fallopian tubes to the the end of the tube. If you have ovulated (from the ovary) the egg situates itself at the end of the tube and the sperm will fertilize this egg. The fertilized egg(ovum) travels back to the uterus and implants into the endometrium. There is no problem conceiving no matter how much cervix you have. The fetus grows in the uterus and that should not be a problem either. During pregnancy, the cervix should be 4cm in length. If it is less than 3 there is a risk of incompetent cervix leading to miscarriage or preterm labor. Once you become pregnant, your doctor may recommend a cervical cerclage. This is the placement of one or two stitches on whatever cervix remains, essentially enforcing the cervix and preventing dilatation. The cerclage works in around 70% of the time. The stitch is removed at term and you are allowed to dilate and deliver the baby. In some cases, the stitch is not removed and you can deliver by cesarean section. Without a cerclage, there is a high chance of preterm labor or miscarriage. Pregnancy is doable. Good Luck.

If your last period started on April 29, you probably ovulated on May 12 and could have conceived if you had sex on May 11,12,13, or 14. You are due for your next period on May 26. If you do not get your period by June 2, take a pregnancy tesst. If it is positive, call your doctor to discuss the possibility of having a cerclage. This is usually done at around 12-16 weeks, after we see that the fetus is viable.
AnswerIn order to help lower the risk of miscarriage, you should take progesterone supplemtation during pregnancy. Miscarriages occur in 15-20% of pregnancies. There is nothing you can do to cause a miscarriage and there is nothing you can do to prevent a miscarriage. I was suggesting a cerclage merely because you have only 10% of your cervix left and a cerclage may prevent dilatation of the cervix during the pregnancy. If your cervis is 4cm in length, that would be good. However,if it is less thabn 3cm, there is a high risk for preterm labor or miscarriage any time during the pregnahcy. There is nothing to do to prevent an early miscarriage (6-10 weeks).
