Understanding hCG Levels After a Miscarriage: What to Expect
Questioni am 26 years old and have 1 child. lmp - 5/7/05
i miscarried nearly a month ago and my doctor has been doing beta test to check that my hcg levels are dropping. i was wondering how much they should drop by and is it possible to get pregnant even though my levels haven't dropped back to normal. my levels at the moment are 254. a week ago my levels were 624.
thanks for your time
AnswerUsually, after a miscarriage (or pregnancy), HCG values will halve every 48 hours. We usually recommend not to become pregnant until the values are less than 5. That shouldn't take much longer. It is possible to become pregnant again once you ovulate. I do not know exactly when you will ovulate. However, once you get a normal period, ovulation usually occurs around 14 days later. Ovulation has nothing to do with HCG values. HCG, the hormone of pregnancy will continue to drop as long as you are not pregnant.
