QuestionEver since giving birth to my son three years ago via c-section I have been plagued with a rash around and on my c-section scar. The first time the rash appeared was six days post delivery. At the time my nurse told me that it was a yeast infection and I should use over the counter yeast medicine to cure it. I have always found that rubbing alcohol has cleared it up within a day but recently I started dieting and walked several miles a day and it's become increasingly worse and nothing seems to help. Since I am overweight, my belly hangs down over the scar and it always stays moist. I've even gone as far as using diaper rash cream which initially worked but isn't making a difference now.
Does anyone else suffer from this problem and do you know of any over the counter remedy?
AnswerBecause the area stays moist, it's vulnerable to yeast and fungal infections. Most likely you're dealing with a fungal infection. This problem is actually not that uncommon.
Use an anti fungal cream in the morning after your shower. Make sure that you completely dry the area. Blow dry your scar after you towel dry, then apply the cream.
After exercise, use a baby wipe to again clean the area. Dry thoroughly, and reapply the anti-fungal cream.
If twice daily does not cure the problem, repeat the cleanse, dry, cream routine before bedtime too.
