Progesterone Cream & Low Progesterone Levels: A Fertility Question

Question
I am 39 years old and ttc again after going through an early miscarriage with
low HCG at 6 weeks in early December. I recently had bloodwork done again
and levels are on the low side of normal (estrogen 32, progesteron 14.5--
although FSH is on the high side of "good" at 8.6) I've been working with an
acupuncturist to get my body back to normal in the interim. (we took a few
months off) I have been taking chinese herbs as well--dong quai-based
combinations. My question is would I benefit from a progesterone cream and
if so, which type and when to take it during my cycle. I'm also thinking of
dropping the chinese herbs and trying vitex for a couple of cycles to try and
improve progesterone and my luteal phase (which has increased from 11 to
13 days).

Answer
Dear Grace,

As a nurse, it is beyond my scope of practice to prescribe medications. Many women have been prescribed progesterone preparations to increase their progesterone level when trying to conceive, however you would need to see a doctor to get the correct dosage and prescription for you. The same would hold true for use of Vitex.

I suggest that you go ahead and see your doctor to get the appropriate prescriptions to help improve your fertility.

Hope that this has helped point you in the right direction. I wish you well and fantastic results!
