I am 26 years old. I just had my first baby by c-section 5 weeks ago. I cant remember when my last period was. Like I said I had my c-section 5 weeks ago. I had all kinds of problems afterwards. I had a hematoma (cant spell) but a swollen hard brooze near the incision under the skin. I had an infection, which I got antibiotics for. and lots of pain. But the last week everything was getting better, no more hard spots, no more pain, no more tenderness. My bleeding had all but stopped. could go a day with out any real blood.
But last night I was trying to climb into my dads big Blazer and my shoes were wet and I slipped and hit the sight of my incision on the edge of the seat. Since then I have been bleeding a lot again, and I am scared, what should I do?

If you fell against your incision and it is bleeding heavily from the incision, you should call your doctor right away. Until you hear from your doctor, put a piece of gauze or bandage against the area the bleeding is coming from. There is nothing to be scare about. However, you definitely need to have the incision examined.

Thank you for your help. I am not bleeding from my incision at all, thats all healed up. I am bleeding vaginally, but i spoke to a nurse at my doctors office, she thinks I may be starting my period. My next question though is, can I still have sex after my 6 weeks is up? The doctor told me that i shouldnt as long as there was bright red blood, well, if its just a period I should be able to have sex, right?

Answer
You gave me the impression that you were bleeding from the incision.  If your cesarean was 5 weeks ago, the bleeding that started is certainly the beginning of your first period. You may have heavy bleeding for the first few periods after the delivery. I would not suggest intercourse until you have your post partum exam at 6 weeks post partum. Usually, by six weeks your body is completely back to normal and you can start having intercourse again. Most women do not enjoy having intercourse while they are having their period, although it would do no harm.
