Hemorrhoids After C-Section: Pain Relief & Doctor Recommendations

Question
Good evening, I was wondering if you can help me. I had a c-section on November 8th (7 weeks and 6 days) and developed hemorrhoids. Never thought it could happen with a c-section. Anyway's Apparently I have them internally because i don't feel them nor see them (my ob either). I am going crazy and wanted to ask you if there was something I can do to calm the pain after I use the bathroom and which DR I need to see?

Also, can you answer questiosn regarding spotting and the clear liquid coming out after the c-section?

Thank You!
Sharon

Answer
Dear Sharon,

Congratulations on your baby!  I'm sorry to hear that you are in pain.  Hemorrhoids happen quite a lot in pregnancy because of the pressure on your pelvic floor muscles. I recommend you to talk to your doctor during your next OB-GYN appointment.  Meanwhile here is some information:

Take a soothing sitz bath for 15 minutes several times a day, or whenever you can. Use a plastic tub (sold at drugstores) over the toilet.  Use warm water.

Try an ice pack or cold compresses medicated with witch hazel.

Alternate hot and cold treatments.

Use soft, unscented, white toilet tissue. Moisten the tissue.

Ask your OB-GYN for anesthetics or medicated suppositories.

Avoid constipation: Eat a high-fiber diet, drink plenty of water (eight to ten glasses a day).  Prunes in the morning might help.

Walk (at least 10 minutes a day).

Don't wait when you have the urge to have a bowel movement.

Do not strain during bowels movement.

Do Kegel exercises daily.

Avoid sitting or standing for long stretches of time.

Lie on your left side when sleeping, reading, or watching TV to take the pressure off your rectal veins and help increase blood return from the lower half of your body.

Also, use a low foot support when sitting down for bowel movement.  It changes the angle of your rectum and can alleviate the pain.

Hope it helps!
