Questionhi, i am 29, indian and in fairly good health. i last had my period on sep 6th. i generally have a 30-31 day cycle. when my period didn't come on oct 6, i waited a week and took a hpt which came out negative. between then and oct 23 i took three more, all of which came out negative, but still no period. also every once in a while my left side - between the abdomen and hip - would start hurting.
i live in a small town and the closest gynaecologist is 40km away. so i went to see him on 23rd and he asked me to get an ultrasound. however, the ultrasound came out all clear. the hospital doesnt have facilities for either blood hcg tests or transviginal scans, so it was an abdominal ultrasound. he said that there were no traces of pregnancy but he wasnt sure why my period hadn't come or why my side hurt.
however, after i returned home that day i started bleeding. it was like regular periods, with no clots but stopped unusually fast after just 2 days. i thought my period had come and didnt take another hpt. however, this morning i was spotting again - dark brown blood.
what is happening with me? any help would be appreciated.
AnswerIndu,
It is really not possible to view your uterus from an abdominal ultrasound in the first few weeks of pregnancy. I am concerned about the pain you have on your side. If this continues or gets worse, I think you should go back to the hosptial. I am concerned that you would have an etopic pregnancy. This is where the fetus implants in your fallopin tube. It is very dangerous if not caught early. if the pain has subsided, I would not worry too much. Sometimes we have odd periods for unexplained reasons. Hope this helps. Good luck!
