How soon after the removal of Norplant can you become pregnant, if you have had it in for 4 years? and also, what are the odds of birth defects if you become pregnant within the first 3 months of Norplants removal?
I'm 29 years old, and have 2 children..
My last period was aproximately on Spetember 15th, 2004. I had my norplant removed on August 3rd 2004, and have NOT had unprotected sex, but missed my period last month, took a home test which resulted as positive? I'm so confused and concerned..
Thank you
Thank you so much for your reply... YES I did mean to say that my last period was August 15th, with NO period all of September and when I took the First Response home pregnancy test it came out positive.. So there is nothing to be concerned about with birth defects right? Could I miss my period also simply because my hormones and my body are going back to normal? Could the Norplant cause a false postive with the home pregnancy test?
Thank you again.

You can start trying to conceive at any time after having the Norplant removed. It is comprised only a progesterone and is not harmful even if you were to become pregnant before it was removed. I am a bit confused though. YOu claim to have had your last period on September 15 and also state that you missed your period in September. If your last period started on September 15, then you are due for your next period on Octobert 12 and have not missed a period. If you meant that your last period was August 15, and you had the implants removed on August 3, you also have no reason for concern.
AnswerA pregnancy test shows the presence of HCG, the hormone of preganncy). If the hormone is in your blood or urine, the test will be positive. If not, the test is negative. The fact that you had Norplant in your body has no effect on the pregnancy test. However, you may miss your period occasionally after the Norplant is removed. If a pregnancy test shows a positive result, you are, indeed, pregnant. The Norplant will not cause birth defects. Good Luck.
