Understanding Pregnancy Symptoms: Why No Morning Sickness Isn't Always a Concern

Question
Hi My friend is pregnant and has began to show that she is. She doesnt know how many months yet but she is a bit confused because she doesnt have morning sickness. Is there something wrong? she is 15.

Answer
Dear Esther,

First, I do apologize for the delay. I suffer from migraines and this has been a heck of a week...

Every woman and every pregnancy is different. The symptoms often associated with early pregnancy are related to the surge in hormones. But while some women experience discomforts like nausea or morning sickness for months, others never do.

Your friend is not abnormal at all. However, if she is far enough along that she is showing, she should definitely have begun prenatal care by now and be on prenatal vitamins to decrease the chance of birth defects. Please encourage her to see an OB doctor to begin appropriate prenatal care as soon as possible!

I hope this has helped you and answered your question. I wish you well.
