Post-Miscarriage Blood Clots: Causes & What to Watch For

Question
Hello, I had a natural miscarriage on March 26, 2009. And since then my periods have returned to normal, o so I thought. I find that sometimes I have blood clots that are a little bigger than normal. Before I was pregnant I had severe menstrual cramps but I find with the clotting they are painless, not associated with any tiredness which leads to anemia. What could this be? Is clotting normal after a miscarriage?

Answer
Hi Yvonne
It's not unusual for women to experience a change in their periods after a miscarriage.
You do not say how big the clots are. As long as they are no bigger than a dime and theres no unusual colour or smell to your bleeding/clots or your bleeding isn't excessively heavy, then you can accept this as normal.
If you find that you are experiencing any of the above then you need to see a doctor. Larger clots need to be brought to the attention of your doctor as you may need an examination to see what's going on.

If you are at all concerned, do go and see your doctor. I believe it's always better to trust your instincts and if you find that all of a sudden your periods are displaying unusual patterns, it's better to make sure everything is ok.

I hope this has answered your question. Please do come back if you have any more  :)

Kindest Regards
Sarah
