Question
hi i had a miscarriage last October and bled constantly for 3 months and the doctor didn't refer me to have a d&c and didn't give me anything, now i haven't seen a period for about 5 months i have gone to my gp and they just said that it should return to normal what do u think i should do cause im getting really worried cause i haven't seen a period?

Answer
Hi Melissa
For you to bleed for 3 months with no investigation really isn't acceptable. If you miscarried naturally but you still have persistent bleeding, it means your body may have retained some tissue which should have been investigated and if necessary, be removed via surgery.
It should take a woman 6 to 8 wks for her periods to return, this is for an uncomplicated miscarriage. As your bleeding was left, it will take you longer to regain your cycle, but 5 months is more than average.

I would see if you can visit another doctor for a second opinion. Lack of periods usualy means you're not ovulating, medication can be given for this as a short-term solution to kick-start your system.
As long as your cycles are usually regular and you have no history of gyn/fertility problems, getting things in synch should be no problem.

I hope this has helped and I wish you the best of luck. Do come back if you have any more questions or to update me. I'd love to hear from you to see how you're getting on!

Kindest Regards
Sarah
