Understanding Early Pregnancy Bleeding & HCG Levels: What to Expect
Questioni found out 2 weeks ago that i was pregnant. about 4 weeks along. At 5 weeks i started bleeding. So i called the doc. and was called in for labs, the next day the labs said my hcg was 34.4 she said this could be cause i was early in my pregnancy. that day, i was passing what i think were tiny clots when i went to the bathroom. my bleeding wasnt heavy but more than spotting. i never had any pains. i had to go back 48 hours later for more labs and i got a result of 27.3, im supposed to go back next week for more labs but my bleeding has stopped and only lasted maybe 4 days. i still feel pregnant and the nurse said i will have a miscarriage if i havent already and hasnt really said anything else or given me any kind of information. could i still be pregnant? i thought about going somewhere else for a second opinion but not sure if it is worth it?!?
AnswerKristina,
I am so sorry you have been left with this confusion. I am very sorry but those results to me do indicate that you have already had a miscarriage. I am in no way medically qualified, but in the first 12 weeks of pregnancy hCG levels rise rapidly, and in 48 hours you would expect to see the levels at least double if not more.
I would speak to another nurse and ask for more advice, you shouldnt have been left without any. If you have had a miscarriage it does not mean that you wont go on to have a success healthy pregnancy in the future. Miscarriage is natures way of saying things werent right this time.
Have your blood tests done next week, it will reassure you of any doubt either way. Good luck Kristina,
Kind regards,
Christine
