Nail Damage from Biting: Causes, Repair & Prevention

Question
I've been biting my nails for as long as I can remember and I've basically ruined them.  There are bumps and ridges in my two thumbs and the cuticles are damaged as well.  I know that the first thing I need to do is to stop biting the nails, but this will fix the cuticles.  I'm pretty positive that the damage to the thumbs is permanent.  My dermatologist told me to wait it out and see if anything changes.  I was wondering in the meantime if there are any sorts of cremes that would fix damaged nails.  Also, how can I cover up these ridges and bumps?  Would acrylics/gels/fiberglass or something else work for that? Some nail technician around 5 years ago used some kind of fake nail on my thumb and the ridges went away.

Thanks for your help!

Answer
You can wear any type of enhancements such a acrylic, gel or fiberglass to conceal the defects of your natural nails, this is quite easy, about fixing your natural nails, i think the simple fact of stoping the habit will improve them imensly, and when they completely grow out (this might take up to 6 months) i think that most of the defects you can see now will be gone.
If you decide to have enhancements i encourage you to search for a good nail tech, as a bad tech can do lots of damage to your nails.
Hope i could help.
