Acrylic Nail Maintenance & Customization: Addressing Lifting & Color

Question
Hi,
I has a full set of pin/white acrylics applied about 2 months ago. I love them but now that the nails have grown I not only have a spec at the base but the white has moved up and shows the white of my natural nail. I am planning on going to a different salon this time - should I have them put a whole new set on or just fill? Can you have just the pink on your nails and no white ( my nails are very pink naturally anyway) Can you put nail polish over the acrylic? How often should you have them filled? what is the difference between filling and rebalancing. Thank you.

Answer
Everything you are experiencing is totally normal- your nails grow, so the enhancement moves out with the growth.
It's not necessary to have a new set put on, and in fact I highly discourage it!  A fill is merely what it sounds like- filling in the area of new growth with product.  The problem with this though, is that constantly re-applying product to your enhancements in this manner makes them thicker, and thicker, and thicker.  I recommend to clients to ignore "fills," and always have a rebalance done EVERY 2-3 weeks- it keeps the nail at the right BALANCE, with a stronger apex in the right position, and a thinner, more aesthetically appealing nail overall.
