Nail Tips vs. Acrylics: A Comprehensive Guide for Beginners

Question
I am so new to nail care...I can't seem to find out what is the difference between tips and acrylic sets othen than tips are obviously just the ends of the finger and acrylic is the whole nail.  Is there a difference in how they look? Last? Long term effects on natural nail?  I am looking to get one or the other for a wedding, so I will not need/want to get them filled afterwards.  Just a 1-2 week thing.  And is pink and white the same as a french manicure?  Sorry I'm such a newbie!  Thanks!

Answer
hello kim, tips are the plastic shape that is attached to your natural nail and blended in so u cant see the join, acrylic is a mix of liquid and powder that is applied over the whole nail and plastic tip making the nail "extension".  Acrylic, gel and fibreglass are all different overlays that are applied on to a plastic tip, or just onto your own nail for extra strength.  There is a lot of difference between the end result and you must research the salon or technician you choose to apply these, make sure they are qualified, experienced and can offer all 3 methods.  I would suggest fibreglass extensions as they are the least damaging and can be removed in pure acetone leaving your natural nail as it was to start with.  If you only want them as a one off this would be best, pinkand white is usually referred to in the acrylic method as a permanent french made up of pink and white acrylic.
Dont apologise for being a newbie its good you are asking questions as to many people rush off to cheap salons with poor hygiene standards and no training and end up very disappointed with badly done nails.  Please do not worry, you may ask me as many questions as possible. thanku
