QuestionI had UV gel nails in the past and am thinking of getting them again. I love
the way they look. My question is this: does any filing need to be done on
the natural nail or can the gel adhere with no filing? The nail tech I went to
did some filing (I *think* it was gentle) but she used a drill to do so.
Everything I've read about gel nails says not to allow the tech to use a drill on
the natural nail. What is she to use instead? An emery board? Also, when I
didn't want them anymore she told me to let them "grow out". But they ended
up lifting and getting caught on things and I picked them off. Bad ... I know.
My natural nails were horrible after. In your opinion, should most nail techs
be able to buff/file off the gel nail without going too deep and hurting the
natural nails?
AnswerYes your nail tech should be filing your nails with a file. And acrylic file not an emery board. This is iportant to remove the shine and oils and prevent lifting. She used a drill because it is alot faster and pretty much has the same effect.
The reason a drill is not good is because 90% of people mis-use them! It is never ever meant to put a ridge in your nail plate, its never meant to hurt or burn, its not soposed to go so fast that it damages your natural nail! Now if your nail tech has on the light sander peice and on its lowest setting you are fine. Most people dont do this especailly if they cant speak anglish but if you trust your tech you are fine!
