Gel Nail Allergy: Solutions & CND Shellac Concerns for Nail Technicians
QuestionHello,I have been doing gel nails for 9 months now and have suddenly developed a SEVERE allergy to the gel. I've changed brands, wear nitrate gloves, a face mask, long sleeves & goggles &even the dust getting anywhere on my skin causes severe itching & blisters to form & spread all over any exposed skin. I've even had my eyelids swell 7 form scabs, so I gave them up and subsequently lost all of my clientele, so my question is do you know if the new CND Shellac product will be likely to cause the same issue? No one wants to wear acrylics anymore where I'm from; and ofcourse I've done them for 13 years and never developed any sort of allergy to them! Go figure.
AnswerThe good news is that with any of the new gel polish brands, you're not likely to do much filing on the gel so you'll never be covered in dust. It polishes on like traditional polish and you soak it off-- very little opportunity to come in contact with the product. Before you invest in the entire system, I'd recommend getting the top and basecoat and one color and trying it a few times so you know if you'll have a reaction.
