Trimming Solar Nails: Can You Do It at Home?

I recently had Solar nails applied for the first time and am very pleased with them. I do not need them filled yet but am finding that they are longer than I would like them to be. Can Solar nails be trimmed at home or am I going to have to wait until I need to have them filled to have them trimmed?  
I also am wondering how often the entire Solar nail will need to be replaced?

 You can file them down with a file, but I would suggest that you return to the salon where you had them applied to do this for you. Filing them by yourself can disrupt the structure of the nail and cause them to be a bit weaker if not done just right. I can't imagine that this would be much more that 5.00 to 8.00 dollars.
You will need to fill them every 2-3 weeks. It is tempting to try and stretch out your appts. longer, but your nails will get "out of balance" after that amount of time.
