Can You File Gel Nails? Addressing Concerns About Damage

Question
Hi Heather,

I have a fresh set of gel nails.  The tech made my nails too wide, short, and are uneven.  She told me not to file them and if I do they will crack.  Is this true?  If I can file them, is there a type of file I need to use, certain grit or anything?  I won't let her touch me again, and I'm pretty limited on my time at the moment so I can't go anywhere else.

Thank You,
Katie

Answer
Katie you CAN file them, but you do risk breaking the seal created on the edge of the nail by the tech- it shouldn't make them crack, but it can make them lift something awful.

I would recommend going to a beauty supply and asking for a 240 grit abrasive, and a good top coat/sealant to place on the top of your nails for now.

Let me know if you need a referral for a good tech in your area when your time constraints let up.

AND PLEASE FILE CAREFULLY!

Good luck ;)
