Why Are My Sculptured Nails Lifting? Causes & Solutions

Question
I have worn sculptured nails for years.  I have always had a problem with them lifting. At one time I was only losing a couple of nails in a two-week period.  Now they pop off systematically.  For instance I have lost 8 nails in the last 10 days and 7 the 2 weeks before.  My nail tech says it is my fault, but this doesn't seem normal?  What can I do?

Answer
Hello Johnnie,

If I got it right, by the term "sculptured nails" you mean acrylic nails without tips...
There are many reasons why we lose our fake nails...
Most common is that our nails are greasy (something you cannot check on your own and has nothing to do with you having greasy hair or face complex). Putting acrylic on greasy nails it's just a matter of time to see them popping off! The worst thing is that none of the techs can see that or know it. But he has to advise and worn you for this possibility.
Another reason for nails lifting has to do with hormones. Some women before their period, they tend to have hormonic reactions as zits (spots in their face), pains and bad mood...
Also, the nails (our body...actually) does not accept the material (acrylic, gel etc). It takes it as a foreign body (as a disease) and aborts it.
And finally the material that your tech uses might not suit you.
All the above are reasons why your nails pop off only when you treat them right (use gloves with washing the dishes, try to avoid heat as the hairdryer etc.).
Try to have a conversation with your nail tech and do not hesitate to try another!

Hope I was helpful.

J.
