Is a 10kt Gold Ring Real? Understanding Gold Hallmarks
QuestionI recently brought a white gold ring from a small shop that sells gold and silver jewelery. The man wasnt very helpful but i fell in love with a really unusual ring its white gold with teardrop onyx style stone and a few stones ethier side. I paid around 55 pounds sterling as its second hand. Inside the ring it Has 10kt stamped on it. But no intials or symbols just the 10kt ? Is there any chance it can still be real? Many thanks.
AnswerIf it does not have any other symbol or mark, it is a manual inscription by the jeweller & not an authentic hallmark by an independent agency so it maybe true or not depending on how honest the jeweller is.
You can get it officially hallmarked at a nearby assay office or an official precious metal hallmarking service provider.
