Identifying Your Hallmark Ring: Ruby or Garnet? 10K Gold & Hallmark Meaning

I just acquired a ring from an elderly ladt who has had it "forever". She thinks the ring has garnets. I however, think they are rubies. Anyway, the ring is marked with 10k and also has the work HALLMARK marked on the inside of the band. Did Hallmark make fine jewelry or do they? And where do you suppose I can get more info on the ring? Google is no help. Thank you, Tracy

Hello Tracy and thank you for your inquiry. I found the following information on Hallmark Jewelry. I do not know whether or not they are still in production. You might check a Chicago Directory. The resource doesn't specify whether or not they produced fine jewelry or just costume.
