Identifying Sapphire Ring Hallmarks: Is It Valuable?
QuestionHello, I wondered if you could help me identify the hallmark on a ring I have recently inherited. People have said "oh what a lovely bit of costume jewellery" but I tend to wonder if it might be a little more special than that as this lady didn't wasn't into cheap and tacky. Either way, I love the ring as it was hers and that is more important to me that what it's worth, but I am interested to know. It is a cluster of what look like sapphires which build up into like a cone shape. The ring is gold and there are tiny gold droplet looking things next to each claw. The hallmark looks like 191' or 19V I think.
Thanks for your help

AnswerHello Katrine and thank you for your inquiry. Your ring sounds lovely. The only way to determine it's value would be by testing for metal content i.e. gold or silver. This needs to be done by a professional jewelry or gemologist. The 191 or 19V might be a manufacturer design number. You might ask your local antique shop or museum for a referral to someone that can test it for you. Testing jewelry for metal content and gemstone quality is a complex process and if you believe the ring to be quality - have it tested. Hope this helps and enjoy your ring !
