Antique Vermeil & Garnet Ring - Age & Value Assessment

Question
Hi Rolfe, I'm trying to figure out the approximate age of a ring I recently purchased in Germany. I was told it was from about 1880, vermeil (silver with gold on top) it has three circular garnets in a closed back setting and the band has a delicate but ornate design. Inside the ring it says "800," which I assume is a silver mark--80% maybe? My question is could the ring be earlier because the design elements seem to point to Georgian techniques-specifically the closed back and band design. On the other hand, it is marked with that "800" and does not seem to have foil on the backs of the garnets. Could the ring be Georgian? Or is it a Victorian designed in the style of Georgian? Thanks so much for your help.

Answer
hello   Andrea,
sorry this is definitely outside of my expertise...
I can suggest that you go to a gold smith..
preferably one that has been in business for a long time..
your other possibility since this ring seems so old is to find
and antique appraiser... these people are always finding jewelry
estate sales and would be likely to know just where your ring came from..and its value
regards Rolfe
