Decoding Your Red Stone Ring: Understanding V60 & 10K RGP

Question

Red Stone Ring
I have a ring with a large red stone. The stamping on the band is V60 10K R.G.P. I understand the R.G.P. is rolled gold plate - but what does V60 mean? I don't know if it is a Gemstone or a synthetic ruby.

Answer
HI FAY,

THE 'V60' IS PROBABLY A STOCK NUMBER OR DESIGN DESIGNATION. THE R.G.P. IS IN FACT ROLLED GOLD PLATE THAT IS 10 KARAT GOLD. USUALLY A STONE THAT CLEAR AND THAT RED IS A SYNTHETIC OF SOME KIND, MOST PROBABLY SYNTHETIC RUBY. NATURAL GEMSTONES ARE NOT NORMALLY SET IN R.G.P.

THANKS AND GOOD LUCK,

PETER
