Understanding K18 and D0.68 on Your Engagement Ring: What Does It Mean?

Question
I read thru previos asked questions and I commend your time and share of knowledge.  My question is abt my white gold engagement ring. The inside setting is stamped K18 & directly on the opposite side "D0.68" (although the period might be centered vertically).  I became curious why it was stamed K18 and not 18K & began doing some internet reading.  Anyway, have you any information on the "D0.68" stamp.  Or perhaps it could be 89.00.  Or can you tell me where I can look for information. thank you so much.

Answer
Helo Elena and thank you for your inquiry. The K18 could indicate European origin or just the manner in which the manufacturer marked his jewelry. The DO or 89 mark is also probably related to the design or jewelry line of the manufacturer. If you want to determine if the ring is genuine gold you would have to have it tested for gold content. Best done by a professional since it involves acid. A jeweler or gemologist would do this probably for a small fee. If you know where the ring was purchased, they might have more information on the marking - i.e. where or from whom they purchased the ring. Unfortunately, all manufacturers weren't as logical or as thorough in marking their products making it difficult to do research. Sorry I couldn't be of more help, but if I find anything, I'll be sure to let you know. I keep a listing of all the "unidentified" markings for future reference.
